RainbowFox is a joint program by Afghanistan LGBTIQ+ Organization (ALO) and the Minorities organization, dedicated to supporting LGBTIQ+ asylum seekers, refugees, and forcible displaced people in the Czech Republic. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by displaced queer individuals, RainbowFox provides tailored assistance, legal guidance, integration support, and safe spaces for community-building. Our mission is to ensure that LGBTIQ+ refugees and asylum seekers find a welcoming and inclusive environment where they can rebuild their lives free from persecution Through RainbowFox, we focus on empowering LGBTIQ+ individuals in the Czech Republic by providing resources, advocacy, and direct support tailored to their needs.
Why the Fox?
The fox has long been a symbol of intelligence, resilience, and survival in many cultures. In Central European folklore, foxes are known for their cleverness and ability to escape seemingly hopeless situations. This theme is reflected in Czech literature and opera, such as Leoš Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen and Josef Lada’s The Clever Godmother Fox, where the fox ultimately integrates into society and finds safety.
In British culture, the phrase “Fox on the Run” represents a vulnerable individual pursued by a stronger force but using their skills to overcome challenges and escape danger. Similarly, in Japanese mythology, the Kitsune (nine-tailed fox) is a figure of wisdom and transformation, capable of adapting to different identities and situations.
The Rainbow Fox and LGBTIQ+ Refugees
The Rainbow Fox embodies the experience of LGBTIQ+ refugees, one of the most vulnerable groups facing persecution in their home countries and significant challenges in their new environments. However, just like the mythical fox, they possess resilience, adaptability, and the strength to overcome obstacles.
