In case of an emergency, help is just a phone call away. The following emergency numbers are available throughout the Czech Republic, and calls are free of charge:

  • 112 – General Emergency Line
For all types of emergencies (police, fire, medical). Operators speak multiple languages, including English, making it a good choice for foreigners.
  • 150 – Fire Department
For reporting fires, gas leaks, or other fire-related emergencies.
  • 155 – Medical Emergency Services
For immediate medical assistance or to request an ambulance.
  • 158 – Police
For reporting crimes, including violence, theft, or other threats to personal safety.
  • 156 – Municipal Police
For less urgent issues, such as noise complaints, public order disturbances, or traffic violations.

Tips for Using Emergency Numbers

  • Stay Calm: Clearly describe the situation and provide your location. If you don’t know the address, describe nearby landmarks, or provide a number that you find written on the nearest lighting pole.
  • Language Support: If you don’t speak Czech, ask for an English-speaking operator, especially when calling 112.
  • Provide Details: Be ready to answer questions about the nature of the emergency to help responders arrive better prepared.
